You Don’t Need Better Goals — You Need Clearer Alignment With God

Why So Many Believers Feel Driven, Exhausted, and Spiritually Unsettled

By Xavier LeMond, Xavier S LeMond

Why So Many Believers Feel Constantly Driven

A lot of believers are exhausted…

not because they lack ambition—

but because they’ve learned to approach life through pressure instead of relationship.

Even spiritually.

You’ve probably heard some version of:

  • “Find your purpose.”
  • “Maximize your calling.”
  • “Step into your destiny.”
  • “Set God-sized goals.”

Some of that sounds inspiring at first.

But underneath it, many people quietly begin carrying:

  • pressure
  • urgency
  • fear of missing God
  • fear of falling behind
  • fear of wasting their life

And over time, their relationship with God starts feeling more like performance management than friendship.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” — Psalm 127:1

That’s not how spiritual life was meant to feel.

The Problem With Most “Biblical Goal Setting”

Most goal-setting frameworks—even Christian ones—still subtly place you at the center.

You become:

  • the strategist
  • the planner
  • the controller of outcomes

And God becomes:
👉 someone you ask to bless the plan.

But Scripture paints a very different picture of spiritual life.

Jesus never taught people to build better life strategies.

He taught them to:

“Follow me.” — Matthew 4:19

That’s relational language.

Not performance language.

Why Achievement Often Fails to Produce Peace

One of the biggest surprises for many believers is realizing:

You can accomplish a lot…
and still feel internally unsettled.

Why?

Because achievement and alignment are not the same thing.

You can:

  • hit goals
  • grow a business
  • build influence
  • stay productive

…and still be spiritually exhausted.

Because your soul was never designed to be governed by pressure.

“What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” — Mark 8:36

Your internal world matters.

Deeply.

What Kingdom Alignment Actually Means

Kingdom Alignment is the ongoing process of learning to:

  • see
  • understand
  • and respond

to life from Heaven’s perspective instead of reacting from human nature.

It’s less about:
👉 forcing outcomes

And more about:
👉 recognizing what God is already doing.

That changes everything.

Instead of constantly asking:
“What should I accomplish?”

You begin asking:
“What is God showing me right now?”

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths.” — Proverbs 3:6
“The steps of a man are established by the Lord…” — Psalm 37:23

Notice the difference:

You don’t manufacture the path.

You learn to recognize it.

Why Many Believers Feel Spiritually Confused

A lot of spiritual confusion comes from trying to:

  • control timing
  • force clarity
  • or manufacture certainty

Fear creates urgency.

Urgency creates reaction.

Reaction clouds discernment.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10

Stillness matters because it restores perception.

Many people are not lacking direction.

They’re simply moving too quickly to recognize it.

God Rarely Gives the Entire Blueprint

One reason people become anxious is because they expect God to reveal:

  • the whole plan
  • every answer
  • complete certainty

But Scripture rarely works that way.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

A lamp reveals the next step.

Not the entire journey.

Walking with God requires:

  • trust
  • attentiveness
  • and responsiveness

Not total control.

Why Comparison Creates Spiritual Pressure

Modern Christian culture often rewards:

  • visibility
  • productivity
  • platform-building
  • constant movement

And if you’re not careful, you begin measuring your life against everyone else’s momentum.

That creates:

  • insecurity
  • striving
  • spiritual exhaustion

“Each one should test their own work… without comparing themselves to someone else.” — Galatians 6:4

God’s leading in your life may not look like anyone else’s.

And it was never supposed to.

What Happens When Alignment Replaces Striving

When you begin walking relationally with God instead of performing for Him, several things start changing:

  • internal pressure decreases
  • peace becomes more recognizable
  • discernment sharpens
  • decisions become steadier
  • urgency loses its grip

You stop trying to “build a life.”

And begin learning how to walk with God inside the life you already have.

“The mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.” — Romans 8:6

Peace becomes an indicator.

Not passivity.

Alignment.

What Christian Coaching Should Actually Help With

Christian coaching should not primarily help you:

  • optimize productivity
  • maximize output
  • or achieve more goals

It should help you:

  • recognize spiritual interference
  • discern from peace instead of fear
  • hear God more clearly
  • align your life with His leading

A healthy coach doesn’t replace your relationship with God.

They help strengthen your confidence in it.

“My sheep hear my voice…” — John 10:27

That verse matters more than most believers realize.

You Don’t Need More Pressure

You don’t need:

  • a more impressive vision board
  • better productivity systems
  • or another framework for self-improvement

You need:
👉 clearer sight
👉 deeper trust
👉 and greater alignment with God

Because when alignment becomes the priority…

clarity tends to follow naturally.

A Quiet Invitation

If this resonates, don’t immediately turn it into another thing to “work on.”

Just notice where:

  • pressure
  • urgency
  • fear
  • or striving

may already be shaping your life more than peace is.

That awareness alone can begin changing things.

And if you want a place to explore that more deeply, that’s exactly the kind of environment we cultivate through:

Not through pressure.

But through relationship, discernment, and Kingdom Alignment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are goals wrong?

No.

Goals themselves are not the issue.

The issue is when:

  • goals replace relationship
  • achievement replaces discernment
  • or pressure replaces trust

Healthy goals can emerge naturally from alignment with God.

What’s the difference between ambition and Kingdom Alignment?

Ambition is often driven by:

  • self-focus
  • urgency
  • comparison
  • or fear of falling behind

Kingdom Alignment is rooted in:

  • discernment
  • peace
  • responsiveness
  • and trust in God’s leading

How do I know if I’m striving instead of aligning?

Common signs include:

  • chronic pressure
  • anxiety around timing
  • fear of missing God
  • emotional reactivity
  • inability to rest
  • feeling constantly “behind”

Alignment tends to produce greater peace and steadiness over time.

Does God care about purpose and calling?

Absolutely.

But purpose is usually discovered relationally—not forced through pressure or performance.

God is far more interested in:
👉 who you are becoming
than merely what you accomplish.

What if I feel completely unclear about my direction?

That’s more common than you think.

Clarity often returns gradually as:

  • pressure decreases
  • stillness increases
  • and relationship deepens

Most people don’t need a perfectly detailed plan.

They need clearer perception.

What is Kingdom Alignment again?

Kingdom Alignment is the ongoing process of learning to:

  • see
  • understand
  • and respond

to life from Heaven’s perspective instead of reacting from fear, pressure, or human nature.

It reflects growing spiritual maturity and increasing resonance with God’s heart and leading.

Is this anti-achievement or anti-success?

No.

This is not about avoiding responsibility, growth, or excellence.

It’s about removing:

  • fear-driven striving
  • pressure-based identity
  • and performance-centered spirituality

so that your life flows from relationship with God instead of anxiety.

How can coaching help with this?

Healthy Christian coaching should help you:

  • discern more clearly
  • recognize interference
  • slow down internal reactivity
  • and strengthen your confidence in hearing and responding to God

Not become dependent on another person’s voice.
